March 2026 Monthly Climate Summary
March
2026 rewrote the
record books for
early-spring warmth.
It was the warmest
March on record by a
large margin, warmer
than most Aprils.
Hundreds of high
temperature records
were set across the
state, including a new
state March record of
99°F. The heat was
prolonged, with many
areas recording more
than a week's worth of
days with temperatures
higher than any single
March day in the last
75+ years. It was also
very dry across the
state, and the
combination of little
precipitation and
unprecedented warmth
led to a rapid loss of
mountain snowpack,
which was at record
lows for the end of
March. The first half
of Water Year 2026 was
by far the warmest on
record for Colorado,
3°F warmer than any
previous October
through March period.
