Some slight rain during the second half of the night.  Generally cloudy.  Currently a trace of stratus coming over Wenlock Edge plus some visible to the N, with increasing stratocumulus layer above.  Dense cirrus visible before the stratocumulus arrived.  Good visibility.  Surface wind SSW F1-2 initially, but very variable in direction since late evening, no doubt due to the flow coming over Wenlock Edge.  Minimum temperature so far is 9.8 (0241z).

Slight rain 0730z to 0830z.  Extensive stratus spread up from the SE after 0645z and still persists.  Good visibility, briefly moderate in precipitation.  Surface wind variable in direction, F1-2, although it now appears to be settling down to SSW with gusts 15-20 knots.

Slight rain on and off since 0900z, suddenly became heavy around 1150z.  Stratus base lifted earlier but has now descended again.  Visibility good most of the time, occasionally moderate in precipitation, but poor since 1150z.  Surface wind S-SSW F2-3 but F4 with gusts to 24 knots 1030z-1115z.

Very heavy rain just after 1200z (max rate 70 mm/hr at 1221z), with 8 mm falling in 25 minutes.  Further heavy burst since then have increased the daily total to over 11 mm - the wettest day since 4th June.  Very likely these are showers rather than rain, but any evidence of convective clouds is obscured by the persistent low cloud.  Stratus and low stratocumulus persisting, with only a few very brief breaks around 1230z where there was a fleeting sunny interval.  Visibility improving to good outside of precipitation, but quickly dropping to poor in heavier bursts.  Surface wind S F3-4 with gusts to 24 knots.  Maximum temperature so far is 15.3 (1122z).
