A casual viewer watching tonight's Countryfile forecast would probably assume parts of eastern England have already had 212% of July monthly rainfall. I don't think so. Surely it's the rather less remarkable - after a dry spell - 212% of the amount of rain that would have been expected in the first week.

The main issue this summer has been suppressed temperatures due to regular northerly winds especially in the north. Scotland might struggle not to have one of its coolest summers (June-August) so far this century. Unless things change later this month.

Indeed

I'm sure there are few few places that had exceptional rainfall, but to extrapolate that & come up with figures like that is another example of BBC weather sensationalism.

May & June had 53% of the normal rainfall here, and the local reservoir (Stithians) is a bit lower than this time last year. We needed the rain, thought it can stop now.

The situation in Northolt: https://x.com/bbcweather/status/1810335836749136031 Not anything particularly untoward - though it looks like many parts will see substantial rain over the next five days or so.
