The 3rd coldest January here srb in 2014. A wet first and final weeks, otherwise dry mid-month. Mild mid-month otherwise cold and stormy at times

24th - Storm Eowyn, gust to 61 mph here. Much damage in the Edinburgh area which was within the Red Warning zone. The Royal Botanic Garden had 15 trees uprooted or damaged beyond recovery in 'gusts to 74 mph'. These included the Garden's tallest specimen, the 29 metre Cedrus deodara, planted in 1859. The Forth Road Bridge, 10 miles to NW of here, recorded a gust of 95 mph.
