I wonder who voluntarily went on this trip from Penzance to St Mary's, Isles of Scilly
yesterday.
Now that is a big sea for a small boat.

It looks about as rough as it was when I went on the Scillonian III. You were warned beforehand and people were welcome to get a refund if they didn't want to sail but I think most people thought it wouldn't be that bad. I've never seen so many ill people, there was vomit everywhere. I spent the time in the bar which was at the front of the boat (worse place to be but the beer was OK). The corridors and floors were lined with wrethcing bodies, it was like something out of a weird nightmare. I've been on a few boats in my time; made several crossings across the notorious Pentland Firth but that particular crossing was the worst I've ever been on for the sheer amount of ill people. It did make me wonder why they go on boats at all if they're going to be that ill and most were in no state to enjoy the Scillies once we arrived 2 hours late.

As you know, I used to work for the company. My office in Pz overlooked the lighthouse pier, so had a great view of the Scillonian III coming & going, ambulances waiting to take the severe seasick away etc.  The passengers were always warned about adverse conditions, day trip passengers offered a free transfer to another day, but the vast majority carried on regardless. I remember one particularly bleak summer's day seeing people waiting to get on the boat for a day trip dressed for a heatwave.. I pointed out they were going to be very cold, to which they replied that the Islands are sub tropical.

During my period working for the company, I always flew to the Islands! The views are fantastic as you come in. You spend to hours on the Scillonian seeing nothing but the next Atlantic swell, I simple can't see the attraction. It is fun going flat out on a RIB bouncing off the top of each swell.

Wonderful sunny day here today. The visibility is so good that you can read the menu outside The Atlantic on St Mary's from Land's End, with the help of binoculars.

Mousehole 14:30

We have done, relative to most of England & Wales, very well for sunshine lately.

High Tide at Sennen, facing into the breeze, so no small Cu at all. I would love to know the sunshine figures this month for the far west coastal strip, Camborne will be miles behind.

I agree Graham.
People think they will be alright. They like fairground rides.
But for 2+ hours?

I'd always fly. Woderful views and all that.
The trouble is you have to take out a mortgage to afford to fly these days.
