According to Louise Lear there has been "the odd nuisance shower across northern Ireland and Scotland" this morning.

All I can say is that it's quite a big nuisance if you're stuck under one, especially if there's the "odd rumble of thunder" about as well.

There's a familiar pattern to the weather of the last couple of days - after a bright start with sunny spells the convection gets going by mid morning with the showers following on. By mid evening the showers start to die out and the sun comes out again.

These showers seen from the south side of Cromarty Firth brewed up into monsters.

When returning home (to south of the Moray Firth) rain was torrential around Inverness.
A little drizzle for you Bruce? :-)

Certainly not Jack!

It's been moderate or heavy rain since 10am here in Strathpeffer (estimated 11mm since 06 UTC) but no thunder today.

Isn't convection a wonderful thing with very little precipitation over the firths.

Surprisingly the temperature has varied little from around 11°C which can't be much higher than the SST.

And it's still raining...those nuisance showers just don't when to give in.

Hopefully the recent rain and the 20mm at Aviemore today should help Loch Vaa fill up a bit...
