Rather more intense dangler.

A narrow, but rather more intense dangler this afternoon than that during the recent cold snap. It's been raining to some degree much of the afternoon, with some heavy bursts. It seems to be edging westwards very slowly.

Right over the tip of Cornwall now

It's also been very windy, up to 40mph in Penzance, >50mph (F6-7) on the cliff tops.

All rather bleak.

Just checked and the strongest gust today, 46mph in a heavy burst, was the strongest at my site since January. Also, the last gale in Penzance was last January! That's an exceptionally long period without a gale.

The weather in Penzance has been very quiet (gale wise) this century.
From my weather database, summarised by year. (It's simply a cut down database view, hence the field names at the top.)

The 1990s were an exceptionally stormy decade, but since 2007 it's been the opposite. Something that was pointed out by the coxswain of the Sennen lifeboat, in answer to a question for a BBC doumentary, Probably not the answer they would have preferred. To be  fair they did put it to the MetO who basically said it was just a quiet part of the cycle. That was 10 years ago. I've always felt that the decrease in the N-S temperature gradient must be playing a part, though I appreciate it''s not quite that simple as the atmosphere is 3D.

It may well also be that depressions have a greater tendency to stay over the Atlanic, as there have been a number of exceptional seas, when the wind hasn't been out of the ordinary. January 2014 being an example

Graham, the last few links you have posted have not been accessible.  I get this message:

I tried changing the http to https as well before posting this.

Having thought about it, it may well be my network security :)

I can see it but my Firefox warns me the link is insecure as it's not https.

Hi both.

Thanks for the feedback. It's a strange one as if I copy the link from the web, it shows the https:, but it's a security issue.

I think it must be down to the free web space I use. My web site is definitely vintage. I set it up in the '90s and have just added each months summary data since, plus the odd extreme weather PDF file. As it's so old and basically simple (no adverts!) it loads in about 1 micro second. I basically have a free sub-directory on their web space. As it was setup so long ago, that may be the issue. What I'll do, when I get a moment, is get another sub directory & copy everything over.

It definitely was my network security - atwebspace.com appears on some blocklists due to spammers utilising the free webspace.  Next time I'll just look at the link on my phone using the EE network.

I think i'll move my site if it's an issue with atwebspace.

My weather site has now been moved from atspace to somewhere which doesn't seem to have any security issues. THere is a chance that the odd link still points at the old site.

I designed my web site back in the mid 90's in the days of VGA CRT monitors on a 386 PC. I've done little since except add monthly data & extreme weather PDF file links. It was fairly cutting edge 30 years ago, but is distinctly vintage now. Next year I may do some redesign, but it will NEVER have adverts.

If there are still security problems I've wasted my time!
