The wind is now F8 on exposed parts of the south coast, it's been >60mph at Gwennap head with a 10 minute average wind speed of 41mph.

The rain has been heavy and horizontal, roads are awash after all the recent rain. There was over 25mm this month prior to this this event, with heavy rain/hail showers streaming off the sea on recent days.

However, the big event today is the sea state in Mount's Bay, the roughest of the extended autumn/winter. I know, I just got to the roundabout on the prom. Lucky the tides are small.

As far as I can see, only really west Cornwall badly hit.

It's been so wet for so long, even Colliford reservoir is 90% full, everywhere else is under water.

The first SE gale of the year, so the 1st to bring a large sea into Penzance. Same at the normally sheltered SE facing Minack (around noon)

The visibility seriously affected by salt spray. The sound system will be taking a battering.

Still, when the weather's this bad at least it's interesting.

Not as bad here but gusty and unpleasant rather than horrendous when raining.
13.1 mm today.
31.8 mm over the first 4 days of March.
A strong southerly  or SE is the worst direction for Wembury too.
Fortunately not Spring tides atm.

See my post about the very different effect of those SE winds to the lee of the Scottish mountains.
