Max here today 27.6°, which seems "high". Very little wind, which may have contributed to an overheated screen. The screen itself is in reasonable condition and a light SW'ly late in the afternoon did not lower the temperature significantly. So maybe it's true. There was a noticeable heat low over southern England at the time.
