One hour in the morning, another hour late in the afternoon.  Not a lot changed in between.

'Midsummer Day' on June 24th is a fascinating blend of ancient agricultural cycles, pagan reverence for the sun, and the strategic adoption of existing traditions by the Christian Church. It reflects a time when the "middle of summer" was understood in a broader, more experiential and traditional sense, rather than strictly by precise astronomical calculations.
