When, even late morning on a sunny day, most of the warmest places are on or  near the coast. From NE Scotland to Scilly.

Also near 18C in Penzance (11:45) after another notably cold night. Minimum 6.8C, so a big temperature range for this location.

A beauifully sunny day with deep blue sky and a maximum of 19.8°C after a rather unusually cold start for mid-September, minimim of 3.6°C.

A steady breeze coming in off the sea all day.

All rather lovely.

For the past 50 years, the start of autumn almost always occurs immediately after the Braemar Highland Games.  The games are traditionally attended by the reigning monarch.

It would be helpful if King Charles asked the organisers of Braemar to hold the event a couple of weeks later so that we could enjoy longer summers. (!?)
