Eventual maximum 9.2C, probably the warmest spot in the UK. Dropped to 2.2C late yesterday evening, just >7C @ 09:00 today, with drizzle & a blustery SE wind.

I can't help thinking, when I was a lad back in the 60s, the recent SW England snow event in an easterly wind wouldn't have been restricted to the higher moors, it would have easily settled in Penzance. The SST was so much lower in those days. On one occasion all roads west of Penzance were essentially blocked, we left school in Penzance and 3 of us set off to walk the 8 or 9 miles to Sennen in heavy snow. Fun for the 1st 2 miles. Got picked up by a 4X4 half way back. No mobiles, my parents were relieved when we materialised.

Blizzards in a winter easterly have become rarer and rarer. I know we had the 'beast from the east' a few years back, but the actual frontal preciptation soon turned sleety here. The heavier snow was previously as snow show streamed off the channel. The last really notably blizzard occurred nearly 40 years ago, back in 1987. Telephone & bus stop at Sennen, next to Atlantic Cresent, where I lived as a lad.

Now, in Cornwall,  they close schools if there's a risk of an air frost - literally.

That's climate change for you.
