At least, it is according to the news.

About 20 years ago, the main BBC news showed several basking sharks at Sennen (I was actually there at the time). They said they were very early this year, due to global warming. This ignoring the fact that back in the '60s & 70s they were regularly around in May.

In recent years there have been relatively few basking sharks around Cornwall, again, according to an article I read, due to global warming.

Yesterday (or the day before) the BBC news started with a video of a hump back whale off 'Cornwall' except it wasn't, it was off Scilly - which isn't a part of Cornwall. It was originally on the Isles of Scilly Noticeboard facebook page. At the end of the news it was implied that the increase in sitings was down to global warning. As an 'expert' later said, it's more likely down to the ban on whaling (and smartphones to record sitings, more wildlife trips etc.)

It's all a bit sad, as global warming is real. News coverage on it would often due justice to a Trump. It's almost impossible to watch any news article now without global warming be mentioned.

In practice, hump back whales have been seen regularly off Cornwall for quite a long time now. One took up residency just off Penzance and had to be rescued from ropes a couple of times. It was attracted in by the warm water due to global warming.
