Why is Camborne often so exceptionally cool in Summer?

I'm not suggesting the readings are wrong. When there's a moderate offshore warm/hot easterly in summer, it's much the same as say Newquay.

But, anything other than that.. .

Take today, near calm inland, both north & south coast gentle sea breezes.
Inland
Cardinham (near Bodmin) 28C Max.

On the coast where very little or no sea breeze development
Penzance 27C    Lands End airport 27C.

Culdrose, with an easterly breeze off Falmouth Bay 26C
Plymouth - a SW sea breeze 25C

On the north Cornwall coast with a sea breeze
St Mawgan (Newquay) clifftop airport 25C
Camborne, set back from the north coast 21C (Maximum as at 16:00)

I can only assume sea breeze air must funnel it's way up the valley, but even so it's Camborne's a mile inland, the sea breeze was gentle, and the SST off the north coast is >18C, > 20C over the beaches.

I've had a look at Camborne depth and surface temps, and they would indicate that if the air was left in place then the air temperature would be much higher.  So it does look like a continuous feed of marine-chilled air reaches the site with little modification.  There will also be an element of cooling due to the ascent.

Much warmer there today - but they have an easterly.

Yes, it's certainly hot here now. Even Scilly, basically a few rocks in the Atlantic, is 25C. It'll be back >30C in parts of Cornwall today the way things are going, already 29C at Newquay. To think, I'd been recording in Penzance since 1991, and the first time it reached 30C was in 2022. Around 28C at the moment (noon). Quite an eventful year.

I've resurrected this thread beacause no sea breezes this morning, just a gradient moderate N wind.

At 11am ish
Where the wind's offshore, at 11am
Culdrose, Plymouth, Penzance, all 23C

Exposed cliff tops north coast (north of Lands End)
Newquay & Lands End airport 21C

Camborne, set back from the immediate coast 18C.

Newquay & Lands End Airports are both about 20m higher than the Camborne site. It definately has it's own micro climate! I think it's a funnelling effect up the nearby valley. Lands End & Newquay are cliff top sites, the cliffs blocking a direct blast from the sea,

Just got back from a stretch of beach next to Penzance mainly used by locals. Just away from the Marazion hoards heading over to the Mount, next to Long Rock Industrial estate, which is hidden by the railway embankment. It's a lovely hidden spot. Picture 10:45ish. Barely a ripple.

Still very hazy despite the N wind, and still warm enough for sunshades rather than wind breaks.
