It's staggering the degree (no pun intended!) to which May records are being shattered on the tip of Cornwall.
Bearing in mind that my 34 year May record was 24.4C (the sea used to be very cold in May - the SST was 19C at the Penzance buoy yesterday under a warm patch) the temperature at both Newquay & Lands End cliff top airports was 27C at 09:20!! I no longer have a Stevenson Screen, sadly, so I'm reluctant to give any temperatures from my site, though I can confidently say the record would be absolutely shattered.
Locally the MetO temperature forecasts have been excellent, several days out, with one exception, Scilly. I strongly suspect their grid location is over the sea, they've had repeated problems with it in the past.
Current MetO forecast maximum is just 17C, that's colder than it currently is at nearby wave buoys and Sevenstones off Lands End. The forecast for 10:00 & 11:00 is 15C. St Mary's airport, about the highest, most exposed & windblown spot on the Islands, was 20C at 09:00.
