This is crazy. Who has named Storm Debi, Jasper?
I thought the Irish, British, and Dutch Met offices had named it Debi,
but this Dutch chart has it as Jasper.

Rishi might be a good storm name.  The subsequent one would be Suella.

Europe uses its own naming convention.  It's a bit like a hallway becoming a vestibule when you cross the channel :D
Seriously, though, normally Europe would continue with a name that was already in use, but on this occasion I think Met Eireann and DWD named it at the same time, so kept with their own names.  I must admit it is confusing, and would help if we all used the same scheme - but that's not in the spirit of brexit ;)

A problem may occur when some research is done on a named storm and is published in an international journal.
Different countries will know it by different names.
I suppose naming of storms was not meant for learned journals.
It was just to alert the common populace to likely impacts.

From Wikipedia (so it must be right).  The Northern Storm Naming Group (Denmark, Norway and Sweden) This naming group, like the naming from the Free University of Berlin, does not use a naming list but names storms when it has not received a name by any other meteorological service in Europe and is projected to affect Denmark, Norway or Sweden.

But I recognise that presumably the storm had already been named as Debi by Met Eireann.
