On the Sennen webcam 09:15. One for text books.

Missed the rain again yesterday, though we've just had a very brief shower with very large drops.

Only 0.1mm in the last 4 days. May all change tomorrow.

Great shot.  It looks isolated - I wonder what set it off.

There were a few scattered around, moved in from off the sea. In fact the Cu that developed inland (at least in west Cornwall) were fairly small.

I can only assume that in the humid unstable air a SST of 17C or so (warmer in places 17.9C at the Perranporth Buoy) was enough to start some convection. Then the condensation heat helped. There were thunderstorms forecast for Cornwall, in the event they never quite occurred. 0.4mm in the brief shower in Penzance 09:15, dry and fairly sunny after that.

The Cb in the photo moved NEwards just off Lands End & Cape Cornwall (the Cape in the photo).  In the photo (looking north) the Cb is still over the sea a few miles off the north coast. Roughly off Pendeen.

The storm clouds missed us here passing to the west around Truro.
A lot of billowing growth to the west as shown by these Congestus.
Plymouth had a brief shower that gave 0.8 mm.

A very different day today, though once again we've missed the rain (well 0.3mm this morning) Then bright but generally cloudy, looks like rain is finally about to set in.

Sennen is very sheltered from a SW wind, and there was a rather good cleanish wave today. From 14:00, I'd just come out, the cloud was thickening up.

The sea felt particularly warm, I notice Perranporth, with a similar aspect, has an SST of 17.6C, and that's just offshore, not right over the beach.

I also notice Surfline, which absorbed MagicSeaweed, is rubbish. Sennen normally gets a cleanish wave in a SW wind, as today, and is sheltered as today. This was always reflected in the Magic Seaweed days. No more, it looks like pure model output giving poor surf and windy conditions. It's current forecast for noon 26mph gusting 35mph. Good grief, there was barely enough to lift the flag. Magic Seaweed was born in Devon with the intention of providing accurate local surfing beach forecasts by modifying model output using programs based on local knowledge. For many years it was quite simply brilliant, nothing else came remotely close. All has now been lost. As posted elsewhere Tragedy Strikes Global Surf Community: Magicseaweed Is No Longer With Us.

Perhaps a phoenix will rise from the ashes? (Wishbone Ash 1971 - great on Vinyl CD reprocessing ruined it)

Two views from Nairn Monday morning.  Cumulus congestus, wind shear and spread out.
Clearly the convection hardly punched through the inversion (or stable layer) as there were few showers, and they were very light.

Agree with you totally Graham about Surfline. Trouble is someone wanted to make some quick money by selling MagicSeaweed.
Did they realise the new product would be useless?

Lovely shots Jack.
Tiny droplets in the congestus tops, very reflective, hence the very brightness.
