September 2016 fifth warmest since 1659

September 2016 ended up the fifth warmest in the central England temperature [CET] series that began in 1659. I reckon the mean temperature for the month was 16.05°C, and the anomaly +2.53°C above the 1961-1990 long-term average. It never quite matched 2006 and almost caught 1949, but after all’s said and done that only makes it the warmest since 2006, the warmest September in the series. More information on my blog.

Surprising to see so many warm Septembers in the 18th century. (I'm just back from a week's holiday in Croatia; hence the late reply. Incidentally, two separate local guides informed our group that the Bora north wind can reach speeds of up to 250 kph, which I rather doubt can be true.)

A little bit excessive...
Yes September's peaked about 1730 and they only climbed above average till the 1950's.

Thanks. I knew that there had been some notably mild autumns and winters in the 1730s, but that September anomaly is remarkably large.
