
The Met Office say in their press release:
"To ensure we are in line with the US National Hurricane Centre naming conventions, we are not going to include names which begin with the letters Q, U, X, Y and Z. This will maintain consistency for official storm naming in the North Atlantic"
I don't see any real consistency in this storm naming saga across Europe.
We have the French, Norwegian and Germans doing their thing and the Met Office and its affiliates doing another, with the added complication of ex-hurricanes from the Americans.
I suppose in a way it reflects the underlying nationalistic divisions that still remain across Europe.
Perhaps the only answer is to get Eurovision to sort out the naming convention.
