I check the GFS model daily at:

because I find without much expert knowledge the pictures are convenient and fairly easy to interpret.

However, I noticed today that the maps are frozen on 21 September. (I thought the pattern wasn't changing much.) Anyone know why? And is there an
even better graphical representation for the non-expert/

... Hello Trevor,

Have you tried the charts HERE . . .

http://meteocentre.com/models/get_panel.php?mod=gfs&run=06&stn=PNM&map=eur&lang=en&mode=latest&yyyy=latest&mm=latest&dd=latest

If you go to the home page . . .  choose 'Forecasts' in the drop-down menu, then 'Regions' = 'Europe' (etc), then you've got a whole host of models to feast on!!

In the 'Standard Maps' matrix, choose 'Classic' (for the one closest to what you want), or select the individual paramter.

HTH

Martin.

Thanks. Well, it doesn't look like a heatwave is on the way.

That is a useful site. I'm not sure I deduce enough from it, other than:
- to what extent the models broadly agree after a few days
- how windy (and therefore probably how wet) it's going to be
- orange and red is hot and good in summer, blue and purple cold and good in winter
- light blue and pale green are boring.
