The temperature rose to 20.1C yesterday despite an onshore S wind increasing from F3 to F5 as the day progressed, & limited sunshine. There was a beautiful surfing wave at the Cove end of Sennen beach, which faces NNW.

Then came the rain. The 1st real rain arrived around 18:00, and bursts of showery rain much of the night, totalling 15.5mm. The wettest 09:00-09:00 period since 8th August. September rainfall now 36.9mm

Strongest overnight gust at my station 28mph, but 48mph NNW gust at Lands End around 3am.

It seems autumn has finally arrived today. The temperature may have only dropped 2 or 3 degrees but the loss of the humidity means that it felt much, much cooler with DPs dropping from 17°C to 18°C to 12°C. Going from summer to autumn in such a manner came as a bit of a shock to the system as I left the house this morning in my usual short-sleeved shirt. Made me want to run back inside for a fleecy for the first time since last April. Brrrr! Still, October usually delivers a few days with +20°C so hope is not lost just yet. Autumn coming - abort abort - head south.

A maximum of 18.3°C this afternoon makes it the coolest day since the 21st June, though over 9 hours of sunshine helped to temper things somewhat.
