Very baroclinic for those in the know.
Some big seas as Graham says.
Wet as well. Have had 58 mm so far to 10th Jan.
My 30-yr average for Jan is 114 mm.

I wonder if the Cornish weather had something to do with the failure of the Virgin Orbit mission from Newquay to reach orbit height?
It was hardly Californian conditions.

The Gry made it to Scilly last night, during a lull in the weather. I'm sure the Islanders were very relieved. It was a little touch & go.

I don't think the weather was responsible for the rocket failure. The flight went fine to the correct height & position. The main rocket was released and seemed to go off fine, went hypersonic, but for some reason didn't gain quite enough speed. It was a shame, and not just for Cornwall. It's a so much more environmentally friendly way of putting satellites into space than the horrendous emissions from a vertical take off rocket.

it's certainly been wet, I must check the figures to date.

I had presumed that the rocket failure had something to do with faulty blue touch paper (not enough potassium nitrate).

No Jack. It was more likely someone had left a half-eaten pasty in the wrong place.

No self respecting Cornishman would have left half a pasty!

A local butcher in Nairn in the north of Scotland makes excellent - as he calls them - "Cornish Pasties".

However:
Since 2011, the Cornish Pasty has enjoyed protected status under Protected Food Names legislation; so only a pasty made to a specific recipe in Cornwall can be called a “Cornish Pasty”.

Now you chaps who live in Cornwall  might want to follow up this flagrant breach of the regulations:-)

It was a good job the rocket did not come down on the Scillies.
It was last seen heading off towards the Canary Islands.
