The one on the right had been attacked by a bird (or maybe a small mouse when it was asleep)

It is 80 years to the month since my mum caught a butterfly and sent me on a lifetime interest.  It was one of the species illustrated here that has become very much more common and widespread over the decades.  I used a net all those years ago but today I 'catch' with a camera.  A Comma - relatively new colonist in my part of Scotland refused to be 'caught' today!   But I did yesterday.
