It might have all happened 6 months ago, but drive around Penzance on the bypass, and downed trees are still lying next to the road, where they were cut off to re open the main A30.
I think, the most dramatic reminder are the trees which weren't felled, but had all their branches removed by the 100mph gusts.
The following picture was taken from the train today about 2 miles out of Penzance. It WAS a thick copse of trees. Most were felled, but the survivors(?) are a reminder of the once in a lifetime event.
It was easily the worst that I've experienced, and I used to live on the cliff top at Sennen, looking west over the Atlantic. This is in sheltered Mounts Bay.
There certainly seems to have been a narrow corridor of really extreme winds just east of Penzance. Just 2 or 3 miles wide stretching north south. Going by the damage to the trees.
