Cawdor
Castle is a magnet for foreign tourists. With my severely limited
mobility, one of the red seats (Cawdor colour) provides me with a perch
while my active wife goes off on a long woodland trail. But people
come to talk
to the old man
on the red bench and there is often a good exchange of views.
A
splendid young lady and I got chatting. She was Brazilian and I asked
about the recent floods. They sounded bad, but it wasn't in her
part of Brazil. I talked about the Sahara dust. "We wouldn't have
the Amazon without the dust." (provides the condensation nuclei plus soil enrichment). That
was an unexpected response from what was clearly a very smart person.
She is a civil engineer working in Colorado, USA.
An
Eastern-looking elderly couple - I could place their background - spoke
in perfect English, albeit with an accent. They were from Singapore and
English is their everyday language. The man was quick to point out
that per capita, Singapore is perhaps the wealthiest place on
Earth. I held out my hands in a begging gesture. Mr. & Mrs
'Singapore' immediately got the joke.
