I missed the recent severe thunderstorms in northern Italy and SE France but Blitzortung got them. These were the 156,108 strikes on the map below from 1200 UTC on the 13th to 1200 UTC on the 14th October. The Blitzortung is a wonderfully successful project that puts a lot of weather services around the world and the WMO to shame. If I were a bit more technical I would maybe invest in one of their detectors.

Just to the South East of us, but we caught some of the rain.

This is what they describe as a Mediterranean episode and gives some impressive rainfall totals. In the weather warnings they were predicting around 300 to 400 mm of rain for the Cevennes  for Wednesday and Thursday and I haven't seen a final total, but there was over 200 mm on Wednesday in parts, but that's not unusual for that area. I've also not hear of any flooding damage.

Infoclimat gave quite a good breakdown of the event including maps and the link is still there at http://www.infoclimat.fr/bulletin-special-324-episode-mediterraneen-intense.html
