Ping Keith on sunshine (lack of) for 2021 !

Hi Keith, been looking at your sunshine data for 2021. I see only April and November are above average (just) and December is astonishingly low, virtually sunless for the last 16 days. Do you know where all this stands record wise for down here i.e Annual figure and December?

Also be interested to know how other regions have fared given that Scotland for example can very often be quite the opposite extreme to us.

Cloudy and quite dry here with normal temperatures. 

Sun in Copley so far is 42hr(59% whole month norm) on the electronic and 37hr Campbell Stokes. 16 days no sun. 2015 and 2002 were duller, but December is a miserable month here anyway.

Mean max so far 5.8C(+0.1C) mean min 0.7C(+0.1C) Mean screen 3.3C(+0.1C)

Rain 71.2mm(82%)

Snow falling 11 days(0) lying 50% 3(-4) fresh falls 15cm(+1cm) air frost 12(-1) ground frost 23(0)

Copley Lead Mill Mean max 5.2C(-0.6C) mean min 0.3C(0.0C) Mean screen 2.7C(-0.1C)

Snow 50% 4(-4)

Final few days will lift temps and rainfall, but perhaps not sunshine.

Near gale again now, but mild and calm do not go together here very often.

You caught me on a day out -)

My 1991-2020 average December sunshine is 71 hours.

Currently  have 35.7 hour this month (Dec 2021) 14 sunless days, today a minute or so registered.

The lowest in my records since 1960 (1960-63, 1980-1992 missing), my average has been adjusted by C.O.L..

Is 1969 with just 6.5 hours for the entire month.

1968 was 18.4 hours

2002 was 26.7 hours.

2000 was 33.2 hours

1978 was 33.8 hours

1964 was 37.7 hours.
