The wind is in just the right direction to funnel around the tip of Cornwall and give some very lively conditions. Gwennap Head recorded a 67mph gust @ 2:49.

This, combined with a fairly well defined dangler, the first of the autumn, and right over the top of Penzance all morning

has made it feel rather bleak. Sennen, currently just west of the dangler, it looked pretty grim an hour ago, and least the rain is now just to the east.

No proper surf, a locally generated wind wave. The highs & lows need to swap positions for decent surf.

During that gale the Sennen boat lifeboat had a very difficult rescue, 10 miles off Pendeen, 15 miles from Sennen - in the middle of the night when it was gusting 60-70mph.

Sadly, the Falmouth packet is the only 'local' online news site left. When Cornwall Live started it was OKish, having some ex Cornishman newspaper staff. They've now sacked everybody in Cornwall, including their biggest asset, a brilliant photographer who always seemed to be where the action is. Why employ people when you can get the news from social media and randon archive flooding /storm pictures (not even from Cornwall) for free? In fact they now have no presence in Cornwall at all, although they claim to have a "Cornwall Office" (probably a part time employee in Nottingham). It's run by the same company as Devon Live, Dorset Live etc (Reach plc).  They get their income from advertising, anything else, just gets in the way. In fact, they describe Cornwall live on the Reach website as 'The ultimate advertising opportunity'

Anyway, back to the weather, yesterday saw a maximum of 14.1C. That's the first sub 15C maximum since 2nd May. Temperature held down by the cloud & showery rain associated with the dangler.
