That Met Office low likelihood weather warning didn't last very long.

Lots of fresh snow at Glencoe this morning, plenty down to plateau level (2000') not sure how much lower it goes.

The widest the pistes have been all winter

Might qualify for a yellow warning on the Chilterns!

Talk of some more snow in the Scottish Highlands tonight. One thing that's not being much talked about by eg Met Office or BBC Weather just now is that this southward shift of the jet stream, cooler temperatures and very unsettled conditions come three weeks after a major SSW (though I see the Met Office deep dive is discussing the other interesting topic of the frequent recent sightings of the aurora in northern UK).

Met Office deep dive last week covered south-shifted jet.  I think SSW was covered the week before when it was happening.

I posted the following comment under last week's deep dive:
Has the Met Office detected any impending changes to surface weather in the northern hemisphere following the Sudden Stratospheric Warming around 4 March? The mini colder snap over the UK next weekend seemingly could have happened whether or not there was a major SSW earlier in the month.

Even more this morning, right down to car park level on the A(83?).

I was a bit surprised to see 9C forecast max on the BBC forecast map yesterday evening for the western highlands, and 8C over Devon and Cornwall.

Currently it's barely above freezing (below freezing on the higher roads) in that area. Generally around 7C (away from the tops of the moors) in Devon and Cornwall. In west Cornwall recently 7C at Culdrose, 7.6C (@09:00) in Penzance. 8C reported in Pymouth.

This forecast map for noon looks a lot more realistic to me. The SST off Cornwall & S Devon is >10C.
