I'd normally consider these locations reliable.
123 mph National Coastwatch lookout near  Padstow
111 mph NCI Station, The Island Penzance
(Both new records)
98 mph St Michael's Mount
93 mph Nr Lands End (Highest since '98)

Just wlked into town and back (10 minutes each way.) Impossible to go by car. Paths closed etc. Just 2 of the several tress down with a few hundred yards of my home. Driving was not an option!

The house in the upper photo is relatively unscathed, otherwise I wouldn't have shared the photo. Cars bent by branches in the sude roads. The normal path into town, through Penlee Park closed due to tress in a dangerous state.

Facebook is the best source of info at times like this, news sites are  out of date and so often  wrong even then.

My original home village for example

I would draw some comparisons here between Europe and the USA.

Europe, including of course the UK, invests in scientific research.  It might be said that we have seen the benefit of that in the superbly accurate forecasts for Storm Goretti.  Weather forecasts used to be the butt of jokes but the excellent results this time might  result in even more investment.

Sadly, for those across the Atlantic, a certain person sees no benefit in encouraging science.

Not sure if the Met Office have mentioned such but on the ITV 1.30 pm News Alex Beresford mentioned a possible sting jet over Cornwall yesterday. He also mentioned gusts over 100 mph at the St Ives location and somewhere else (I forget the exact details).
