The Moray East Windfarm is between 38 and 70 kilometres from the Moray Coast at Hopeman.  Although I have seen the turbines from other locations further north (Easter Ross), today was the first time I had seen them from Moray.

I was discussing this with a podiatrist (who lives in Hopeman) I visited later, and she said that some days the turbines are easily seen, but other times, even with excellent visibility, simply cannot be seen.  I suspect that was as strong mirage effect today.  Air temperature was +1C and water temperature +9°C.

Photo details: 1,200 mm lens (equivalent) - a very long telephoto.  Image then cropped to illustrate.

Fata Morgana perhaps?

I went to a nearby spot today with perfectly good visibility.  Indeed, I even looked from a cliff top 30 metres (100 feet) higher.  I could not see the turbines.
