Thunderstorm here 12:30-13:00 Couple of close flashes, the closest this year. Looking at lightning sites they occured just east and west of Penzance. Most of the activity just to the west though.
Not a large amount of rain here, about 5mm in the storm itself. (Though 9.7mm last night up to 09:00 today) There were some very bright echoes just to the west & to the east at 13:00.
Quite a sharp clearance around 13:45 to spells of sunshine. I drove out to Sennen at 13:30, and 3 miles to the west of Penzance the road was awash, there had clearly been much more rain than in Penzance.
Anyway, turned out quite nice later in the afternoon, though with a stiffer SSE wind than forecast. The prom 17:45
Sennen at the same time, the back end of the thundery activity still visible.
You can work out the dominant wavelength (period) by the troughs on the beach. Currently the top of the sandbank is the highest it's been all year. Some very constructive swells of late.
Excellent visibility after 16:00.
