Max here today 25.4 C. So above the threshold for a heatwave in SW England.

This is only the first day of course and needs to be 3 or more consecutive days to count as a heatwave according to UKMO.

The warmest day since 12 Aug last year.
Saw a minke whale (or was a humpback) in Plymouth Sound this morning. Great excitement.

21.6°C for me at Southend-on-Sea today, a lot of cloud and a brisk wind, certainly not a heatwave here yet.

Are you sure?  I believe Boris might be having a holiday in the area.

About to brave the Highland heat (25C expected) to the north of the Cairngorms.

Only 21C here yesterday, result of low cloud along the north coast only breaking a couple of miles from Penzance at times.

Very warm this morning. 22C, even at Lands End Airport, @09:30.

Apparently the experts are saying it is a humpback whale, not Boris.
It breached just a few metres away from me and the missus as we stood at the end of Mount Batten breakwater, then breached again in the same place 10 mins later as it headed out to sea again.

Maximum here today 27.1°C  Even here in the Elevated Surrey Desert that counts as a heatwave.  Sky cloudless all day.  Wind a light NNE'ly.

Here in west Cornwall there have been recent reports of both a humpback whale & Boris, both seen breaching. In fact the last 2 years have seen a number of humpback sitings in Mount's Bay, all missed by me. I did see a crystal jellyfish when swimming at Wherrytown (near Newlyn.) a week back. Hardly the mass appeal of humpback whale or dolphin, but they are very rare in Cornwall and the siting got the Cornwall Wildlife Trust quite excited.

21C here @09:00. The wind is just onshore, but it normally backs offshore from mid afternoon, interesting to see what happens then.

Very warm along the north Cornish coast now. 25C at Camborne, 26C at St Mawgan around 11:45

24C here in Penzance, same at Lands End.

All warmer than Heathrow at the same time, which is a bit of a surprise.

I notice the wind is onshore at Newquay, Lands End & Plymouth, it's still 25C at all 3 locations. Currently 25.8C in Penzance.

Too hot for me. Even the Magalufians have taking to the shade. Where is the Camborne UV data when you need it!

I think it is about to finish.
With the 25C threshold it is a 6-day affair.
The last day of the heatwave is today.
Jumpers back on tomorrow and wellies out.

Bit of backtracking going on though. I see the forecast for Penzance for Sunday now shows light winds, sunshine & the low 20s. 'Feel Like' temperature still forecast to be 20C, which is still on the warm & sticky side for me.

The amount of rain down here looks very uncertain as it changes considerably from run to run. But in these conditions . . .

Last nights 19.5C min was a bit much.
