The Rame Head (SE Cornwall) Coast Watch Station AWS gave these temperatures every 5 mins during the partial eclipse. Seems they was a noticeably dip in temperature during the event.

Len,

I was sitting outside the Sennen Cove cafe 10:30-11:00. There was generally a very thin cloud cover, occasional bursts of brighter sunshine. It did noticeably dim, and the thinnish cloud looked quite threatening. It also felt chillier around 11:00, though as the cloud cover was variable, it was hard to put that down to the partial eclipse. However the Rame Head report is interesting.

Next year there's another partial eclipse, 96% of the sun covered on the tip of Cornwall. That should be good.

Interesting temperature dip last Saturday.  Up here in north Scotland was marred by cloud so nothing seen (except a dullness of general light).

The 1999 eclipse was partial over much of the country.  I was at that time doing my weatherjack gliding forecasts.  I took account of the reduced strength of the sun and its likely impact on convection (thermals).  However, I never got any feedback from glider pilots who noticed any effect.

My first eclipse, 9th July 1945 was memorable.  I was six-years-old at the time.  I fully understood the explanation of an eclipse.   Mum had smoked some glass and we had a good view.  But poor mum was stumped when the eclipse was over and I asked: "why can't I see the moon now it's clear of the sun?"  I was an irritating little fellow 80 years ago.  That hasn't changed!
