The mild weather finally cleared out of the way to be replace by some very heavy rain/hail showers during the morning of 21st. Large hail around 06:00. (1st large hail for >1year, I'll have to check back). Then another intense shower around 10:00 resulted in me pulling into Sainsbury car park as the wipers couldn't clear the hail from the windscreen. Much better, mainly dry, in the afternoon.
22nd A ground frost followed by brief rain/ hail showers.
Yesterday, 23rd, was a lovely, if rather chilly winter's day. Dry, sunny periods, light winds, visibility still rather affected by salt spray, as is evident from the photo below (Praa Sands). Maximum 8.0C
Last night a real mix. The temperature dropped between the showers to a minimum of -0.1, rising to 3C or so during them. The result this morning is a lot of water with patches of black ice, resulting in a few road accidents across Cornwall.
The precipitation has been a real wintry mix of just about everything. As I type the velux is covered in the results of a heavy shower around 08:00, which consisted mainly of soft hail (it didn't bounce on impact with the ground) verging on snow pellets. Wind gusted to 32mph during the shower.
Quieter again tomorrow.
