looking at the synops I use from Ogimet I now notice that a number of UK 03*** now include max/min at 06, 09, 18z & 21z obs, not sure how long this has been. Does anyone know whether they are rolling this out for ALL UK synops? This is a great improvement especially this time of year when max/mins are not necessarily when you would expect them and don't necessarily fit in just with: Tn at 6z and Tx at 18z.

It is because they are gradually being moved to a new system whereby there is much more flexibility with when elements are logged.  This coupled with the fact that they are transmitted using BUFR these days which allows for more data and elements to be included.

Thanks Freddie.

I've marked up on my spreadsheet that I use each day which ones have moved to this new system, so I should be able to see if anymore migrate to it  -fingers crossed-

Further to this subject, this morning was one of those cases for Shoeburyness (03693), which hasn't changed yet, with the minimum falling after 6am, my minimum was at 08:10 with 2.7°C, grass 1.1°C, the 03693 synop was 333 20048 3/005  4.8°C and 5°C.

Thank you for this explanation, Freddie.  I had noticed that Ogimet was showing 09.00 and 21.00 reports for more and more sites, but didn't know why.

However, there is now a problem with some of the rainfall totals on the page listing all the sites.  Some of the 24-hour totals are overstated because, for example, the intervening 09.00 figure is added to the 06.00 and 18.00 figures.

E.g. in today's list, Altnaharra is shown as having 15.8 mm rain   https://tinyurl.com/3xnnmzrk  whereas  the total of the 06.00 and 18.00 12-hour readings is only 9 mm  https://tinyurl.com/5fasbv63 .

I think I'm okay as I use the 333 7**** 24 hour figure at 6am on my spreadsheets for UK.

Will keep a close eye on this.

Thanks

Also how my spreadsheets are arranged I also pick out the Tn & Tx's so get the high/low where ever they may appear.
