Sea fog came and went this morning, it was 17-18C in the fog. Then it cleared and it hit 21.2C I realise anybody in Kent reading this will consider it chilly.
That's nothing compared to Newquay which hit 24C. Considering the north coast cliff top location, that's quite something. Is it an October record?
The SST's at the coastal monitoring buoys are
17.4C at Perranporth
17.5C at Penzance
17.6C at Porthleven
What makes these mid October temperatures even more impressive is the fact there's been a big swell recently, so plenty of stirring. The warmth must go down some distance. Those temperatures are 2.5 to 3C above normal for mid October.
