I've lost count of the number of days pulses of rain have moved north just to the east, mainly affecting east Cornwall & Devon, this summer. We've missed out almost completely. Today has been another example. Rain's been pluming north over east Cornwall & west Devon during the day, not a drop here.
This scenario was most notable in June, when much of Devon & Cornwall saw normal or above normal rainfall. Just 71% of the 1991-2020 norm in Penzance, even less at John Chappell's Lands End site. Just to the east Camborne 89%, 142% at Plymouth.
MetO anomaly map for June managed to pick it up, dark brown on Scilly, where the desalination plant is working flat out.
June followed by 54% of normal rainfall in July, 6% so far this month. Currently, the driest summer in Penzance since 1996. With the wind, sun, high temperatures and predominantly sandy soils, it's a bit of a desert out.
