The gusts don't look that bad at the moment...

The wind was not strong enough to blow out the surf at Boardmasters. In fact the only issue was the lack of swell this after great conditions Weds, & good conditions Thursday.

It did improve greatly in the afternoon, with some nice peaky waves.

Could be blown out tomorrow with the wind more onshore. Better for the windsurfers.

Gust analysis in MPH for last 24 hours across WMP block #03 - hopefully his one is correct.

The core of the strongest wind seems to run from Cornwall up the Bristol Channel and NE to the Wash (don't believe the contour values) with a big drop off across the borders.

"You know they're struggling when they roll out the Mumbles obs"

Ha, ha.   Plenty windy enough down here thank you very much!     MPH recently    32/47 at Heathrow      45/58 at Lydd airfield, Kent.    It is like a normal autumn / winter storm for us but with a few quiet lulls thrown in.  All this 'the trees are still in leaf' business - the trees here are still in leaf into November so the condition applies in most autumn storms too. I remember it being commented upon in the October 1987 storm, though the other aspect then was the very wet soil of course (that's one thing we don't seem to get down here).

We're struggling when we cannot supply power to the country and when main-line railways get washed away.....

Yes, it does make you wonder how things will look come November the 1st.

I heard a news item earlier this week saying that food prices will increase and be in short supply which is a signal for a lot of people to be stocking up and emptying supermarket shelves.

This may sound daft but apart from Mumbles and Pembrey I don't believe it's been as it could have been!

There is a ratio of gust to mean speed somewhere but I can't remember what it is for a summer month inland.
