The early afternoon air temperature (around11C) was close to the inshore SST, but the strong April sun, and a degree of instability, led to sea breeze development.

I first spotted this on the Minack webcam. A line of cloud down the spine of the Lizard peninsula, indicating convergence.

Backed up by (marked sea breeze blowing up the Tamar & into Plymouth) I suspect there was a sea breeze blowing up the Fal.

Then, around 14:45 I took this photo just behind Penzance, looking east across Marazion marsh towards Marazion.

The line of cloud marks where the gradient NW wind meets the sea breeze off Mount's Bay. I was under the convergence zone cloud, so it was basically calm, and still sunny - due to the angle of the sun.

Todays maximum near 12c, I haven't checked the exact figure. Superb visibility. Hail showers last night.

I find the comparison between Penzance weather and my own, 520 miles (straight line distance) away in N.Scotland fascinating.  Our weather here is never boring and it seems that Cornwall is equally interesting.  Not sure where I'd rather live.  Maybe here if only because of the much lower population density  / quieter roads.

Yes, I think we both live in interesting areas weatherwise. You're very aware of the weather in Cornwall, just about everything revolves around it.

When I lived in London for a few years (Hendon sort of area) the weather was just in the background, unless it' was particularly extreme.

I have to say, Cornwall is not the place to visit in the school summer holidays, which is why I normally escape to Scilly for a week. Last year, with no foreign holiday's, it was hell in July and August. There are quiet spots even then.

Lossiemouth 10th April.  Sea air (left) land convection (right) rather than genuine sea breeze.
