Like me, you had probably never heard of Mayotte.  Nor it would seem have the French.

"It [Mayotte] is one of the overseas departments of France as well as one of the 18 regions of France, with the same status as the departments of Metropolitan France."

Not impressed by the way the catastrophe has been ignored.

Totally agree Jack, I came across the news by chance .

The BBC news has been dreadful lately. A natural catastrophe on that scale was still didn't warrant a news position above the 5 minutes of the main 6pm news spent plugging Gavin & Stacy (so it tops the viewing charts) or on the following day, Strictly. 

Next a heartwarming news story of how somebody in Tunbridge Wells has been successful in having her nearest letter save from closure.
