Hey, everyone.

Here are the minutes from the last WIRED meeting.  Please read it over as there are questions for many of you.

I have paper copies and scanned copies of the Female Survey responses, if anyone is interested.  I think the information could prove helpful in future recruitment efforts and for possible grant or sponsorship opportunities.  Just let me know if you want to see the results.

Also, there is the larger question of how do we want to move forward with WIRED.  Could you take a moment to answer these questions? (after you've read the minutes):

1.  Do we want to have regular WIRED meetings?

2.  If so, how often and when works well for you?  What would be a next meeting date?

3.  Who wants to remain involved?

4.  Do we want to recruit more WIRED members since many of the WIRED group are already obligated to other work?

5.  Who should be the target student audience for recruitment right now?  (High school?)

6.  Should WIRED have a female high school recruitment event?  If so, when?

Thanks much.

Candace,

Very nice and clear minutes, thank you.  These are my responses to the questions:

1. Possibly.  I think if we are to have regular meetings, they will need to be less frequent now that school (and robotics) has started up.  I think we may want to think about moving back to a more "fun" place so it feels less like a meeting and more like a gathering of women who are thinking of ways to empower the females of the world.  I think this would be a bigger draw to those of us who are already at school many nights a week for robotics.

2.  I kind of answered this above, but maybe every other month instead of every month.  This could be more frequent if we have an event coming up or issue that we need to work on.

3.  I am willing to stay involved (assuming no more conflicts with time!  Sorry about missing the last meetings!)

4.  I think recruiting more WIRED members at this time may require more work to get them on board than keeping with our list of projects and working on them in our group.  If there are women who hear of our initiative and ask to get involved, that is fine, but active broad recruitment may not be ideal at this point in time.  Singling our a person who would be really helpful may also be okay in my opinion.

5.  I think high school should be the target audience since FRC has not officially started but FTC has.  The other thought is to use our high school and middle school FRC and FTC girls to help recruit elementary school girls for FLL.

6.  I think if we have a female high school recruitment event, we should have it as soon as possible or in May.  I am not sure how we would put on a recruitment event for the girls, but it might be too late for this season.  This might be something to put off until the Spring and think about for the Rube Goldberg event to draw them in for the next season.

Hope my rambling thoughts made some sense.  Please feel free to ask for clarification if they didn't!

~Jenny
