Hello, my name is Kimberly Simler:

I was raised to be a patriot and to love my country, though over the years the injustices I have witnessed caused me to question my beliefs.

Like many Americans, I feel the pressure of a system built against me.

At first these pressures had me hopeless about the state of  America, I didn’t think liberty could be saved.

But I don’t want my children to inherit the government that I did, so I knew I had to start somewhere.

I began by reading our constitution and found hope in knowing the power is meant for the people and that it’s our civic duty to demand our government uphold the constitution.

Being a stay at home mom, I couldn’t take to the streets to protest but I knew with the skillset I possess that I could take action.

My sole purpose for this organization is to spread democracy; by providing a space for people to learn how to participate in democracy, to remind the people that we are in this together.

We have the numbers and it’s our right to demand our government to uphold the law.

There are many different organizations who are fighting for the same thing, then I realized that they need a platform for the different groups to get connected, that way we can unite their organizations and organize on a national level.

This platform was created out of necessity, not ambition.

I saw passionate people working in silos. Grassroots groups fighting for voting rights, labor protections, racial justice, climate action, and civil liberties, often competing for attention instead of collaborating.

Not because they didn’t care about each other, but because there was no shared civic map tying us together.

Democracy doesn’t fail all at once. It erodes when people feel isolated, overwhelmed, or unsure how to act.

That’s why Defend Our Democracy was created; to give the people tools, information, and connection so participation feels possible again.

This organization is not affiliated with any political party, PAC, or candidate.

I do not accept financial donations. I do not endorse campaigns.

This is not about power or profit but it’s about participation.

Everything in this organization grows through people contributing their skill sets; research, writing, design, organizing, technical skills, or simply sharing resources with others.

What’s built here is to be shared freely: documents, guides, explanations, and resources designed to help everyday people understand their rights, their ballots, and the systems that govern them.

Knowledge should never be locked behind paywalls when democracy itself is at stake.

I am not claiming to have all the answers.

What I do have is the conviction that democracy only works when people are informed, organized, and willing to hold their government accountable.

America is not beyond saving but it does require us to show up.

This is my way of doing that.

If you are here, reading this, then you are part of it too. Feel free to share stories or struggles and remember we are all in this together.
