to Delivery Models WG (Wind Empowerment)
Hi everyone,

Here is a summary of the group's goals for this year. We hope to have more people join us to achieve them! Contact us for more information.

Cheers!
Katerina

  • To produce a Delivery Models manual

Until now there are manuals for building small wind turbines and manuals for maintenance, addressing only the technical aspects of the system. However, understanding renewable energy systems in rural areas as socio-technical systems, requires addressing also the socio-economic aspects of such projects. A delivery models manual, available in written and online form, can accompany the technical manuals, so that practitioners can have a better understanding and a holistic approach when implementing projects. Having a practical manual will also make it easier for delivery models to be part of the training process during projects

  • To follow-up on the interviewed projects, emphasizing on the socio-economic impacts on the involved communities and how these can be maximized.

At the time of the interviews some projects were just implemented, so feedback on the project’s socio-economic impacts was not yet available.

  • To record short videos explaining the concept of Delivery Models (DM) and their application in locally manufactured small wind turbines. Two types of videos are visualized:

    • Video-Classes will feature a presenter explaining the DM Concept and Methodology in simple and friendly language, using different support methods (Whiteboards/ Drawings/ Photos). If possible, simple animations or other digital techniques could be incorporated. The videos will be separated into Modules according to the topic.

    • Video-Experiences will be recorded locally (where possible) with video or cellular cameras featuring the projects’ actors themselves. The local actors (project coordinators, users, responsibles for maintenance, etc.) will explain different aspects of the project’s planning, implementation, operation, maintenance and impacts. The local actors will receive prior indications so that presentations will be to-the-point and specific aspects are covered. Extracts from the Video-Experiences can also be incorporated in Video-Classes to highlight specific concepts, as examples in real applications.

  • Sustainability Assessment for locally manufactured small wind turbines

    • Environmental, social and economic parameters of the wind turbines are evaluated using Life Cycle Assessment, as well as the knowledge gained from the kickstarter project and existing literature on the subject. Finally, Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis will be used in an effort to assess these parameters combinatively. The goal of this project is to identify under which circumstances are these turbines sustainable for the electrification of low-income rural communities. This process has already started providing clear recommendations for what to avoid and what to take care of during the implementation of small wind turbine projects. At the same time, this process is establishing a methodology for assessing the sustainability of projects.
