We have reached a tentative agreement in the first meeting:

52 regular playing cards + 20 (or so) action cards, to be increased if
we wish

The regular playing cards will not be cards of Boardies (so no
"Furious Card") though allusions to Llamas etc. are welcome.

In an "ideas for cards" thread we will also collect the ideas we come
up with or that have been posted on the board (like a "toilet card")

This thread is for deciding how the game is to be played and what
needs to be in it.

It was suggested that the action cards be loosely modeled on the game
Fluxx, so here it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluxx

I have been chatting with Jim since our group chat, and the more he
and I talk, the more I think a Fluxx model is THE way to go. And it
might mean tossing out the standard deck idea and just focusing on the
Fluxx game play, but not necessarily.

We can use the Fluxx cards as templates to evolve from.

Cross posted from the Board:
I see a lot of options going with a Fluxx model, what I guess I'd like
to hear is that people like the idea enough for us to start working
out a WE version ... or take it in another direction. If you're
unfamiliar with Fluxx as I was, [URL=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
Fluxx]here is the wikipedia, [URL=http://
rabbits.continuation.org/wiki/Fluxx_1.0_Deck_Card_List]here's a list
of basic cards to give you some idea of the variety of cards
available, and [URL=http://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=PcR0nSmoUsw&NR=1]here is a youtube tutorial by the creator of
the game.

What I like about going this route:
1) The game variation is limitless, meaning that depending on how the
cards are played, you'll have a different game experience every time.

2) The types of cards - keepers, goals, actions, rules - could mesh
very well with a WE theme.

3) The cards are easily extensible, and different themed boosters can
be created at any time, and in any number of cards (e.g., a 5-card
robot pack).

4) Something like this should allow for infinite creativity and can
encompass many aspects of the Board.

Comments?

Punkyfins says a Fluxx type game should be fairly easy to implement.

Been talking to JP about a possible course of action:

The intuitive angle to start planning would be with the Keeper Cards.
We round up all the tropes and WE stuff that screams to be in a card.
We are doing this anyway in the "ideas for cards" thread.
Then we begin to categorise them.
A lot of them will be good for keeper cards, but some will lend
themselves more to single action cards or goal cards.

BRAINS are a necessity, especially if we have a ZOMBIE HORDE card

the RED BALLOON card would need a THREAD (double meaning :p) and not
fare so well against a POKE

MODHAMMER beats TROLL, TROLL beats MEAT (heh), MEAT defies any LOGICAL
DISCUSSION, and the LOGICAL DISCUSSION can dissuade the MODHAMMER

CHEESE + CIGARETTES = LIBRARIAN ALIEN. i don't understand it either
but it does.

no one wants the LILY card. Ever.

AVOCADOS + CHEESE make a disturbing type of GUACAMOLE, and can terrify
other players into non-action

CHEESE + LLAMA = God. Yes it's that simple.

would a Zombie Queen card (controls the zombie horde!) be too poster-
based?

Eh, I'd be open to that. I've wondered the same thing about an Amii
card.

There's stuff on individual posters that will be slipped in. I
shudder at the thought of an ENGORGED NIPPLES card though.

There's (a version of) Widget, and Limertilly, and SUPERFINE!! heroes,
and Posting Drunk, and a Menstrual Hut, and Photos of People in
Strange Bathrooms, and Talking Like a Pirate (must be combined with
RUM card), and Hijacking the Deaths Thread, and Richard Simmons (the
card that spoils everything), and PIE.

all good ideas

two things we need to start looking at-

a. we've had a bunch of really great card ideas so far. If we're
keeping close to the Fluxx model, they need to start being classified
in what category they belong (New rule, Action, Keeper, etc.)

b. we need to make sure cards can be played in a variety of ways, so
players don't get stuck with useless cards that can only be played in
conjunction with one specific other card. For example, if all the
Zombie Queen card does is control the zombie horde, and the horde was
played 5 turns before you get the Queen, you're stuck with it. There
could be exceptions if they make sense as part of the game, obviously,
but it shouldn't be more than a couple of cards.

Right and right.
My thought was to start taking all of the ideas and putting them into
a spreadsheet. From there, take a first crack at categorizing them
into Keepers, Goals and Action cards (and maybe some will even work
for New Rules cards). We could do this a few different ways. I could
take a first crack and then get comment and discussion. Or two or
three others (I'm looking at P'fins, Count and Dweller) could also
take a crack at it and then we could see where we intersect and set
that, and then hash out the rest, then bring that draft back to the
group. Thoughts?

I'm up for option #2. If you've got the spreadsheet email it to me and
I'll take a look at it, then we can compare notes and take it from
there.

(we need more contributors, damnit)

It sounds good to me JP. Although I'm below the expertise of the
others you've mentioned, I'll take a look at the spreadsheet too.

we have a google group - what about a google document for the
spreadsheet ? its *not* as manipulative as excel, but should do for
what you need,t hen you can 'invite' others to the document. it's
what we use when we're pulling together The Project.

You're not below *my* expertise, Mr.F. I'm just making all of this
shit up as I go along.

Yes, sock puppets! And yes, I plan to use a Google Docs for the
spreadsheet.

The Google Doc is nearly complete, I'll share with the chosen few (heh
heh) shortly.
