Dear Southtown,
that
was my dog yesterday, and I already contacted Christiane to apologize
yesterday, when this was first brought to my attention, but she never
replied. Christiane also visited my house yesterday, I wasn't home but
she got to talk with my mother in law, who likewise apologized and was
sympathetic to Christiane's concerns. I also talked to the animal
control officer, who was entirely reasonable - we're on the same page
about how to proceed.
Christiane's
account is inaccurate, in that of COURSE we ran after our dogs yelling
for them until they knocked it off and came back. And of COURSE we
apologized (but were told that we'd better be sorry). Christiane was
cussing at us and so we left, to not prolong the situation. Her dog was
obviously fine, but OF COURSE we would have stayed had it not been. And
of course I responded right away to her upset email. (also one of the
"three women" was a man but that doesn't matter. )
I
am really sorry my dog scared Christiane's dog with his dominance
behaviour and upset her, but I am also upset that she re-posted her
inaccurate account today after I pointed out its inaccuracies and
apologized. Worse (and many of you probably saw this) another neighbor
felt free to post my name and address without my consent on the WDOG
listserv - (I'm not a member of that listserv, so I am responding here:
if someone could post to the WDOG listserv I would be grateful). This
makes me feel unsafe, and also makes me worry about the safety of my
dog: I don't know who all is on the listserv, and while I love my
neighbourhood and my neighbours, I don't know how far this listserv
reaches. It only takes one unhinged person to make a bad situation much
worse!
This is not how we ought to
treat our neighbours: both sides. So, for my part, I will work harder on
my dog's recall command, including using an ecollar if need be, so that
he doesn't upset more people.
I wish you all, and your dogs, a good day (despite the downpour)!
Anna Jolles
