Within two hours of the email exchange below, about the article on the 9 year old girl selling lemonade to help eradicate child slavery, I went to my local market, Woodlands, in Kentfield, to get dinner.
I walked in and immediately saw an in-store display.
Of a new lemonade.
Called Make a Stand Lemon-aid.
With the 9 year old founder, Vivienne, and her parents Eric and Alex.
And a crew from NBC news.
Here is what aired tonight at 11:00 on NBC: http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/Girl-9-Sells-Lemonade-218133921.html
Take special note of Vivienne’s quote at the end: “Compassion is not compassion without action, it is just feeling sorry for someone.”
Enclosed is the picture of Vivienne and her family at Woodlands that I am shown snapping in the segment.
Eric started Make a Stand as a for-profit social venture (to ensure it would be self-sustaining and not dependent) inspired by Dan Palotta, whom he has not (yet) met. Eric is a fellow triathlete.
We all got chills.
I bought a case to help their cause.
Eric, Alex, Vivenne and their growing entourage want to meet us, share stories, and help change the world.
Wow…

Holly,
I am SO glad you picked out and highlighted that part of this story. You are exactly right—what a great way to put it and what a great lesson for us!

Scott, thank you for sharing! Dream big, start small, scale quickly.
"Above all, he’s completely set aside tactics and strategies for the campaign. Instead, he says the only strategy is to be absolutely authentic so that her voice comes through."
A lesson learned for us biz people sitting behind conference tables figuring out where to get started.

Powerful story of infectious compassion amplified in large part through a platform, and which resulted in a social venture (lemonade) to sustain the cause (eradicate child slavery).
