Dear Rika,
Thank you for this information. Basically I am a working at the NatCom as the officiating secretary. The role of NatCom here apart from many others is also communication traffic clearing house. What I learn from the ESD conference will be useful in relaying to our UNESCO clubs/ASPnets across the country who are presently engaged in initiating ESD activities actively in the schools and communities around them. And these schools also have the CLC and the NFE programs attached to them. Fortunately, we have a national w/shop for the schools organized by NatCom coming up this December. Hence, this is going be useful for delivering here what we gained from the conference for future actions and commitments to further promote ESD.
With regards,
Paimma Lhakden(Ms)

Dear Participants,
Welcome to the discussion portal of the workshop on ‘Local Communities in Action: Lifelong Learning for Sustainable Development’ organised on the second day of the World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development (WCESD, Nagoya, 10–12 November 2014).
To kick off the discussion, the organisers of the workshop would like to invite you to reflect on and share your roles and responsibilities in relation to community-based learning for sustainable development. Are you an educator/facilitator, a policymaker, a researcher, or combination of these?
During the first week of November, we will share good practices in community-based learning for sustainable development with you. Please highlight what support was critical to the success of the good practice example.
As background document, we’d like to share with you the following documents:
* The Jakarta Statement – Nurturing a Care, Fair and Share Society through CLCs proposed actions to be taken by different stakeholders of community-based learning: community people, community learning centres and local organisations, and governments.
* The Okayama Commitment 2014 – Promoting ESD beyond DESD through Community-Based Learning proposes 15 action points for continuing and expanding education for sustainable development through multi-purpose community learning spaces, such as Kominkan in Japan and community learning centres in other countries.
We would like this space to be an open platform for discussion and exchange of experiences. Please encourage your colleagues and networks to join in the online discussion by sending an e-mail to: wcesd_communityl...@googlegroups.com
The inaugural members of this platform are the participants of the upcoming WCESD who have registered for this workshop and participants of following events organised this year:
* International Seminar on Empowering Community Learning Centres in Enhancing Learning Society through Education for Sustainable Development (Jakarta, Indonesia, 2–5 September)
* Kominkan-CLC International Conference on ESD – Community Based Human Development for Sustainable Society (Okayama, Japan, 9–12 October)
We look forward to your contributions in this portal. Please start by introducing yourselves.
Best regards,
UIL & Okayama City
