Chip seal on 91

There's new chipseal being laid down on Highway 91, and as of this evening, they've finished up to Shivwitz. They'll be done to the junction to Gunlock by midday tomorrow. It's that same awful, coarse, loose, dusty crap they put down to Gunlock two years ago. I tried riding on it tonight, and I kept sliding around on an inch of loose gravel, so I bagged it and went home. Then I drove it (in my wife's vehicle; not mine) and it's basically an unpaved gravel road.

 

I'm going to send an e-mail to a Wendell Gubler tomorrow and inquire as to when they plan on sweeping the road again. (They aren't planning on it.) Maybe you'll want to call him or drop him a polite e-mail requesting the road be swept, at least on the shoulder, for the safety of cyclists. They swept the shoulder of the Gunlock Rd. before the Ironman, and it made a huge difference.

 

This is the most-traveled bicycle road in the county, and the road is now unsafe. Don't drive on it unless you have to, either unless you don't care about rock chips. Highway 91 is now a gravel road.
