Hellyer Velodrome is seeking members of the community to to join the Auxiliary Track Staff Program this summer.


You'll play a vital role in keeping the races running smoothly by assisting with scoring, judging, cameras, and lap cards/bells.


Here’s what you get:

  • Training:
    Learn from experienced track referees for 2 events, gaining valuable skills in scoring, judging, and timing track races.

  • Get paid: Earn $40 upon successful program completion.

  • Become certified: Pass your evaluation and become certified as an Auxiliary Track Staff member, making $80 per event (usually under 4 hours).

  • Flexible schedule: Work track events that fit your schedule.


Responsibilities:

  • Track the Race: Record rider numbers quickly and accurately as they cross the finish line, keeping track of who gains or loses laps.

  • Make the Calls: Assist in determining the finish order of riders at key points in the race.

  • Capture the Action: Operate a camera to record the finish and review footage if needed on a tablet.

  • Keep Riders Informed: Update lap cards and ring the bell to signal laps.


Qualifications:

  • Passion for cycling and a desire to be involved in the racing scene.

  • Familiarity with cycling rules and regulations is a plus.

  • Think on your feet and make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment.

  • Be detail-oriented and ensure accuracy in your work.

  • Excellent spatial awareness to track multiple riders simultaneously.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with fellow staff and racers.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Available Friday evenings from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
